On Friday September 12, the 30th Riverina Stud Merino Field Day at Shear Outback offers an outstanding line-up of Riverina Merino fibre, frame and fertility stud breeding stock. The 2003 venue for the Field Day is Shear Outback in Hay. In addition, this year’s Field Day offers an equally outstanding line-up of industry awards and innovative presentations of interest to a wide audience. Wool growers, agricultural industry personnel, conservationists, young people, stud breeders, and the general public are all invited to put on their Thinking Caps and make themselves heard about the future of land, water, vegetation, marketing, research, and agricultural methods and systems. New to 2003, the interactive Thinking Beyond the Boundary Fence Forum has been created by the Riverina Stud Merino breeders to bring together noted industry personnel and speakers in an informative early afternoon event. The Forum focuses on future land management, sustainable business practices, new directions in marketing and business, conservation, implementing new and better systems, the value of research projects, and the psychology and opportunity of change. The Forum is based around the premise of giving good general advice and showing practical means for implementing best-practise methods for improved results in many facets of the business, family, and home; and giving everyone a chance to make themselves heard. Kicking off just after mid-day on the Field Day’s Main Stage, Thinking Beyond the Boundary Fence begins with introductions by panellists, and follows with questions and then interactive breakaway discussion groups. Speakers engaged to put on their Thinking Caps on September 12 include Geoff Fishburn, the Deputy Director General of the NSW Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources, and Rick Farley, formerly of the National Farmers Federation and currently Chairman of the NSW Resources and Conservation Assessment Council. Representatives from the Resource Consulting Services company form a part of the forum, and will provide practical advice and information about the benefits of the renowned RCS Grazing for Profit System. The Australian Conservation Foundation will be represented by Corey Watts, the Coordinator of the ACF Salinity and Sustainable Agriculture Program. Land and Wool Australia will also be partaking in the event, represented by Executive Director and noted author Andrew Campbell, and other staff members. Others committed to donning their Thinking Caps at the Forum include agri-business and international marketing and business development consultant, Michael von Berg, and internationally recognised motivational speaker and author, Clive Murphy. The Riverina Stud Merino Field Day begins at 9:00 am, and there are a host of exciting industry exhibitors and demonstrations including the Bio-Clip process and other technological innovations. Industry Awards recognising the potential of young people are offered, including the Wesfarmers Landmark Pennefather Trophy for the Best Junior Judge, and the Merial sponsored Sandy Robertson Young Riverina Ambassador Award. The prestigious Elders VP Riverina Ram of the Year is on the Main Stage at 4:00 pm. Every 2003 Riverina Stud Merino Field Day visitor has a chance to win the $500 cash prize just by walking through the gate. Shear Outback is offering special rates to experience the exciting new facility, including the Hall of Fame, Sound & Light Show, Murray Downs Woolshed, café, gift shop, and a Special Exhibition.
